Ex-UM @ JW Cup - Semi Finals and Finals Schedule

Ex-UM's Semi Finals schedule has now been changed. Our SF game will be against HDR (Phang's team!) and will be played on Tuesday night 26 April, 7:30pm at Wawasan 4, Puchong.

Finals will be played the next day, Wednesday night, 27 April.

Ex-UM @ JW Cup - QF Stats (vs MTV Digital)

What a game!! Ex-UM played extremely well against a quality, strong team. MTV Digital controlled most of the game, leading for 3/4 of the game and leading by as many as 14 points. As late as 3 1/2 minutes left in the 4th quarter, we were still down by 8 points (39-47)! But we stayed poised and slowly closed the gap, finally tying the score and taking a 1 point lead on a 3-point play by Ching (50-49), with less than 1 minute left in the 4th quarter! From there our players held on, getting another critical lay up and then hitting all 4 of our free throws to win the game, 56-49!!

Well done indeed Ex-UM!! We are through to the Semi Finals!!

Ex-UM @ JW Cup - Game 5 Stats (vs JK5)

Our final group match (to determine Group Champion / Runner-Up) was against the familiar JK5. This JK5 team had a few new players. A No.7 who is a good shooter and two very tall centers.

I was again overseas and not able to contribute to the team. Having watched the video and done the game stats, I thought our team played reasonably well on the offensive end. It was the defensive end that was the problem as we were unable to stop JK5 from scoring.

Ex-UM @ JW Cup - Game 4 Stats (vs Grifficane)

Grifficane was a non-Chinese team. We always admire such teams. Despite almost always losing due to lack of fundamental skills, Grifficane nonetheless played the best that they could, with the limited skills that they had, never giving up.

Ultimately, we won easily 56-29.  However, I was extremely unhappy that the table officials, being of the opinion that Grifficane was over-matched, shaved off substantial time off from each quarter. Doing the game stats from our recorded video, my suspicions (at game time) was confirmed and I found the table officials had shaved off an average of 2-3 minutes off each quarter, with the 2nd quarter being the worst, with only 6 min 30 secs game time (having had 3 1/2 minutes shaved off). I feel this is extremely unfair to Grifficane who, after all, paid money and took part in the competition to have the opportunity to play competitive basketball, despite knowing they will likely lose most (if not all) of their games. They should not be prevented from having the opportunity to play the full 40 game minutes, regardless of the results or whether they were over-matched.

Ex-UM @ JW Cup - Update (QF vs MTV Digital)

Ex-UM lost its final group match against JK5 last Monday, leaving us group runner-up and matched up against group champion MTV Digital in the Quarter Finals. To make matters worse, I am overseas for work and was not able to help the team especially in terms of coaching.

However, Ex-UM played an exceptional game, getting a come from behind victory, in the critical QF games!!

Ex-UM @ JW Cup - Update

Ex-UM's Game #4 vs JK5 scheduled for yesterday was postponed due to rain! The game is now fixed for 7:30pm Monday, 18 April 2011, next week.

I hope none of our supporters turned up at the games venue yesterday. My apologies if you did. Any Ex-UM supporter who wish to be informed of any last minute changes (like postponement due to rain etc.), please drop me an sms and I will be happy to keep you updated by sms as well.

Our upcoming games now are:

1. Tomorrow / Thursday 14 April night, 9:30pm vs Supersport for HSC (at Summit City Mall);
2. Saturday 16 April night, 7:30pm vs Grifficane for JW Cup (at Wawasan 4, Puchong); and
3. Monday 18 April night, 7:30pm vs JK5 for JW Cup (at Wawasan 4, Puchong)

Ex-UM @ JW Cup - Game 3 Stats (vs Ba Tong)

Ex-UM played another good game yesterday against Ba Tong Basketball Association, though far from our best. A hard fought win (57-51) against a good, quality team from Muar!

Our next game will be against JK5 on Tuesday, April 12, 2001 next week, 7:30pm at Wawasan 4, Puchong. Come support us!

We had 4 players in double figures : Ching (18pts, also 15 rebs), Jensen (15pts), Chuan (14pts) and Poh Guan (10pts).

Ex-UM played well in our 2nd game in Johnny Walker Cup, beating Evernew 77-52. I will upload the game stats as soon as I've done them (probably by end of this week).

JW Cup - Game #1 Results vs 3R System

Ex-UM just played their first game in Johnny Walker Cup today and it was a great game. All players who played, played well. The most notable is Lew Chee Ching, who scored 30 points, grabbed 27 rebounds, made 5 steals, blocked 4 shots, had zero turnovers and 10 of the 16 opponent total personal fouls were drawn / caused by Ching, all whilst shooting 55% from 2 point and 80% from the free throw line!!
