UM Practice & Try Out

UM 2011-2012 Season is starting!

We will have our first practice and try-out sessions starting this week, as follows:-

1. Wedn 28/9 NIGHT 7:30-10:45 PM at Gym 1 (Indoor Court)
2. Sat 1/10 MORNING 7:30-10:30 AM at Varsity Green (Outdoor Court)

We are also trying to secure availability of Gym 1 on Thursday night and will advise if we manage to secure it.

Meantime, for 1st year players (and reminder to our veterans), please note our following practice guidelines / rules:-

1. Be EARLY. Practice start time of 7:30 means you should be there at 7:00, to warm up etc. We start sharp at 7:30.

2. Be EFFICIENT. During practice, especially between drills or between drill and water break, do not walk but run / jog.

3. Practice HARD. Drills are run for short durations but we expect HIGH INTENSITY/ EFFORT.

4. Bring your own WATER supply (LOTS of it!). There is no water supply at Varsity Green and although there is a water cooler at Gym 1, 20+ people waiting in line to use that one water cooler is not efficient use of time.

5. Bring a simple FILE. We will handout printouts occasionally during practices.

6. Subject to the above, have FUN and ENJOY yourselves. Get to know your new team mates and make new friends whilst learning to improve your basketball skills.

UM & Ex-UM Practices for month of February and March 2011

We have been given use of Gym 1 @ UM for basketball practices as follows:

1. Wednesday nights - 7:30-10:45pm
2. Thursday nights - 7:30-10:45pm
3. Saturday mornings - 8-11am

UM will be having "skills and drills" practices on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. All Ex-UM players, especially those taking part in JW Cup are highly encouraged to attend and participate in drills practices as well.

Thursday nights are set aside for "games / 5-on-5" practices. All Ex-UM are cordially invited to attend and participate in some 5-on-5 games against UM. 

Next UM Practice

Our next UM practice is tonight Thursday at Gym 1 Indoor Basketball Court, UM.

The time slot alloted to us is, as per yesterday, 9-10:45pm, with the reason that 7-9pm had been alloted to another sport. However, we found that no one was using the basketball court at 8pm last night. Players are therefore requested to arrive at Gym 1 by 7:30pm in the hope that, again, no one will be using the court during that time.

UM Practices

Next UM practice is as follows:

Time : 7:30-10:30 am.

I have to travel overseas for work and Coach Tak Wing will be outstation for work as well. Tomorrow's practice will be run by Coach Pin and Coach Ming Lip.

UM Practices

UM varsity boys' basketball practices will be held every week (except Hari Raya week) on the following days and times:-

1. Wednesday nights 7:30-10:45pm

2. Thursday nights 7:30-10:45pm

3. Saturday mornings 9am-12pm

All practices are at Gym 1, Indoor basketball court.

Any changes will be posted here and notified by sms.

UM 2009/2010 Season

The new season starts!

Welcome to all 1st year players and welcome back to all veterans.

Practices / try-outs will start this Wednesday 29 July 7:30-10:45pm. We are presently trying to secure the use of either Gym 1 (behind 1st College) or Gym 2 (at 2nd College). If we are not able to get the use of Gym 1 or 2 indoor basketball court, practice will be held in one of the Resident Colleges' outdoor basketball court (possibly 4th, 8th or 1st College).

Once the venue is confirmed, confirmation will be posted here.

Practice / try-out will START at 7:30pm sharp. Players are expected to arrive at the practice venue early, warm-up etc. and be ready to start immediately at 7:30pm.

Our weekly practices are usually on the following days of the week (to be confirmed):-

1. Wednesday nights 7:30-10:45pm - Fundamental skills training

2. Thursday nights 7:30-10:45pm - Game practices

3. Saturday mornings 8:00-11am - Fundamental skills training

Next Practice

We are taking a break from practices to enable players to focus on their final exams.

Next UM practice will be next Wednesday, 6 May 2009, 7:30-10:30 pm. Venue to be advised.

UM will be having 2 friendly matches this week, as follows:-

Friday, 20/3/2009 - 8pm @ Gym 1 vs. UKM
Sunday, 22/3/2009 - 8am @ Gym 1 vs. UTM

Unless notified otherwise, UM basketball practices from now on will be as follows every week:-

Every Wednesday night, 7:30-10:30pm @ Gym 1 - Team Practice
Every Friday night, 7:30-10:30pm @ Gym 1 - Shooting Session

Practices will be held weekly, every Wednesday night and Saturday morning. Venue of practices will be confirmed later (check back here for updates).

Players who did not previously have any chance to try out for the team are welcome to attend the practices and request for an opportunity to try out.

UM Practices - Break for Exams

As our players are having the 1st Semester-end exams, there will be no UM basketball practices for the time being, until after the exams (and maybe even after the Semester break).

Next practice will be notified by sms and here.

Players are requested to stay (reasonably fit) and to try to shoot some hoops on and off (but try to stay away from aggressive, pick-up games) during this time.
