Wednesday Dec 21, 2011 - a better showing last night though ultimately still a loss. Opponent (DNA) started well and we were down by 10 or more points very early. But we settled down, didn't allow them to pull away and kept chipping away at the deficit. DNA played well, hitting critical 3 pointers each time we drew near (for the game DNA hit 11 3-pointers!!) but with persistence, we finally caught up and after 3 quarters, even had a 1 point lead (61-60). Early in the 4th, DNA hit yet another critical 3 pointer and continued to hit critical jump shots after jump shots whilst we struggled to score on half court offense. Chee Ching Lew (who had scored 20 points through 3 quarters) uncharacteristically ran out of stamina in the 4th and scored only 2 points in the critical 4th quarter. This (both lack of Ching's usual scoring and our overall half court struggles) enabled DNA to keep a small 4 to 6 point lead. Still, for the most part we kept it close (fortunately for us Sem AwYong was "hot" throughout the game, hitting 5 3-pointers for the game). Unfortunately, in the last 5 minutes of the game, we again had uncharacteristic mental lapses / mistakes, with turnovers after turnovers, leading to easy fast break scores by DNA. With about 1+ minute left, we were still as close as 71-75, but 2 more consecutive turnovers (one by Sem and another by Poh Guan) put the game out of our reach. Final score : loss of 71-79.
Only one (Ching) of our 4 centers (Ming Lip, Thierry Tan and Cheong Kok Leong were absent). Whenever we only have 1 of our centers, we tend to struggle mightily to score. Yesterday, we practically didn't score at all on our usually effective "secondary break". Hope more (all?) of our centers will attend the next game.
To our loyal supporters, thanks for coming to support us last night. As promised to the supporters, we did play much better than we did last Monday, though I do apologize that we didn't close the game out well at all.
Do come support us again tomorrow / Friday night 7:30pm vs WINEPAK. We promise a WIN!
