JW Cup - Game #1 Results vs 3R System

Ex-UM just played their first game in Johnny Walker Cup today and it was a great game. All players who played, played well. The most notable is Lew Chee Ching, who scored 30 points, grabbed 27 rebounds, made 5 steals, blocked 4 shots, had zero turnovers and 10 of the 16 opponent total personal fouls were drawn / caused by Ching, all whilst shooting 55% from 2 point and 80% from the free throw line!!

Opponent (3R System) was a reasonably strong team as well. We started the game a bit shakily (committing quite a few turnovers) but settled down eventually and steadily pulled away. Our defense (led by Jensen's terrific on-ball defence) was great and the opponent struggled all game long. Still, it was not a "perfect" game we played and there were 2 stretches where we failed to score for long durations. The first (during the 2nd half of the 1st quarter) allowed 3R System to come back from 9-2 down to take the lead briefly (15-14). We responded and in the 2nd and 3rd quarter pulled out to a 20 point lead. The second stretch we failed to score (during the last 2 minutes of the 3rd quarter and the first 4 minutes of the 4th quarter), 3R System managed to cut our 20 point lead down to single digits (9)! Fortunately, we made some critical scores then and eventually restored our 20 point point lead. Final score : Ex-UM wins 72-50.

The most obvious difference is that, this time, Ex-UM players had been "training / practicing" the last 3or 4 weeks, in preparation for this competition, and it shows. We all played a much better "game 1" than we normally do.

Well done Ex-UM!
