Friendly match with SPITT

UM played a friendly match against a polytechnic college from Tanjung Malim yesterday (Saturday).

UM is also taking part in both Sultan Cup and KL Open and had a game on last Wednesday for KL Open, had practice on Thursday night and another Sultan Cup game Friday night! Most players were therefore quite tired. On top of that half the team could not be present for the friendly. We therefore requested Ex-UM players to help make up the numbers so as to avoid risk of injury. Many thanks to Jiun Haur, Phang and Zhen who answered the call for help.

The team from the polytechnic was a young team, spirited, tried their very best but (especially since they don't have any coach) were simply not at our level of play. Nonetheless, the game gave us a good opportunity to let our juniors get more playing time.

Final score, UM wins : 91-37

UM and Ex-UM are both taking part in this year’s Sultan Cup 2010 at Subang USJ 14 (Goodyear Court 9) zone. This year’s format is a “league” / full round-robin format so all 10 teams will play each other.

Piala Merdeka 2010 (UM Team pictures)

The UM team taking part in Merdeka Cup 2010 at Puchong.

 

Both UM and Ex-UM are through to the Semi Finals, which will be played on Friday night 27/8/2010 starting from 8pm. In the event UM and Ex-UM both win or both loses their games on Friday night, we will meet each other in the Finals (either for 1^st/2^nd or 3^rd/4^th) which will be played on Monday night 30/8/2010.

UCBL update

Fresh off our MASUM 2010 success, UM is taking part in Universities-Colleges Basketball League (UCBL).

 

Below are the reports from our Assistant Coaches, who coached the game as I am in Dubai for work.

 

Coach Tak Wing: 

Our game (vs HELP Uni. College) on 06.06.2010 – Sunday:-

 

Final result : UM lost 69 vs 74.....extra time (tied game at 61 vs 61 after 4 periods).

 

From the stat. clear can see that team overall shooting percentage going down mainly due to break for 1 week after our MASUM game. Players are not alert to the instruction from coaches bench. Free throw & 3-points percentage are the main effect to yesterday game.

 

Overall, we (coaches) are satify with the players performance (with consideration of their 1 week break) Since it's league format, we had informed to all of them to keep it up their 'stamina, shooting percentage & spirit' for the upcoming matches.

 

Summary of UCBL :

 

   Date : 06.06.2010 to 08.08.2010

              

   Venue : Start from 2nd game (19.06.2010),

                  the competition venue at Universiti

Coach Ming Lip: 

After 1 week rest, the player not ready for today’s game, 1st and 2nd quarter very slow and not alert on defence 32. We only have 10 player today, Hau and Jinn Wen not playing.

Total rebound around UM 42 vs HELP 52, shooting field goal total UM 28/82+ vs HELP 34/77.

1st half UM down around 10 point against HELP, end off 4th quarter score same 61 vs 61, extra time UM 69 vs HELP 74. The stat is with Coach Tak weng.
