Ex-UM lost its final group match against JK5 last Monday, leaving us group runner-up and matched up against group champion MTV Digital in the Quarter Finals. To make matters worse, I am overseas for work and was not able to help the team especially in terms of coaching.
However, Ex-UM played an exceptional game, getting a come from behind victory, in the critical QF games!!

Ex-UM played JWBC quarter finals game vs MTV Digital. 9 players attended this game, Chuan, Ching, Jensen, Hung, Sem, Ming, Ming Lip, Poh Gan and I. I was having knee pain and decided to play less and focus on coaching. MTV digital is a young and aggressive team, they have a very good point guard who can penetrate and shooting from long range, a few qiuck guards and small forwards. They don't have strong centers or power forwards. The game started late due to rain, and the 1st half was played in slippery floor. We start the game well this time, playing good defense and taking shots whenever its there. Our opponent also play good pressure man2man defense. Sem got hot from the beginning, hitting 2 3 points, and we have a small lead. MTV settle down and started to have some score. We manage to pull the lead to 14-6 but then they hit some tough shots from 3 and close out the quarter to 14-12.
2nd Q they start very aggressive and getting a lot of lose balls and offessive rebounds, Ching and Jensen at the meantime making a lot of uncharacteristic turnover(a few lose ball under basket and some passing error) and Chuan not being patient on the offenssive end, causing some force shots. Ming Lip also missed a lot of makeable shots. I decided to rotate our players more frequence to let them stay fresh. MTV make a 19-9 on us in the 2nd Q. Half time we down by 8pts.
3rd Q, MTV put their 2nd unit in and started to zone press us and play 3-2 zone at the half court. We had some turnovers and they scored. Suddenly, we are down 13 pts with zero score after about 4 mins of the quarter. I called a time out, and settle the players down. After the time out, we started to break their press and have some score. MTV put their 1st unit back in the game. This time we had Jensen face guarding their point guard and switch to 4 out against their zone. We manage to slow down their scoring and forced them into red flag situation with about 4 mins left in the quarter. But then, Ching pick up his 4th foul! Luckily MTV become inpatient, and having a lot of not neccesery fouls(some lose ball fouls and try steal fouls), putting or players on the ft line a lots of time, we made some and missed some. We started to close the gap, most importantly this let our players to have time to rest, we was basically playing defense then ft, defense then ft... Meantime Hung sub in for Jensen and played good defense on their point guard, enable Jensen to take his breath to prepare for final quarter's push. After 3 quarters, we still down by 6pts, but the momentum and confidence are totally at or side.
We start the 4th Q with Sem, Ming Lip, Jensen, PG and Jiun Ming(to enable Ching to rest for another 2 or 3 mins while his in fol trouble). Jiun Ming played critical mins and take some 3 pts shots, missed but were good open shots. Both team traded a few baskets and after 2mins plus Ching check back in. These time we played excellent defense and continue to attack on the offenssive end. Sem and min Lip both made a big 3 pointer. We close the score to 2 pts. With about 2 mins plus, Jensen "found" Ching in the post guarded by 2 players from behind and 1 at the side, Ching calmly pick up the ball, turn and made the under basket shot, foul! Tie score, opponent called time-out. Ching made his go ahead ft. We played good defense, and Ming Lip made a critical lay-up. 3 pts lead! MTV fail to score and they foul PG(who missed all his shots whole night!) with 20 plus seconds, red flag, 2 shots! PG made both! Then MTV fail to score again and foul Ming Lip with 7.2 seconds, Ming Lip made both as well! Final score 56-49.

Our next game Semifinals is on wed, 27th April, 730pm. Our opponent will be winner between HDR construction(Phang's team) and Renegade(Sassi's team).
