Ex-UM @ Hoops - Game 4 Stats (vs WG)

We lost! 53-66. We did not have a good game at all offensively. On the other hand, although the 2 former national players (both tall centers) for WG were absent, their other players (some of which were also former State players) played extremely well.

Again, some players were late arriving for the game and we therefore could not start nor have our ideal rotations. We had a relatively poor 1st quarter, missing a lot of shots we normally make and scoring only 14 points whilst giving up numerous offensive rebounds to WG. At the end of 1 quarter, we were trailing 14-18.

As poorly as we played in the 1st quarter, we played much MUCH worse in the 2nd quarter. We had a 3 point quarter! We shot 1/19 (5%) from the field, with Jensen making the only 2 point jump shot and Ching making 1 FT! WG on the other hand went 6/19 (32%) for that quarter. By half time, we were down by 18 points (17-31).

We regrouped at half time and started the 3rd quarter with an 8-0 run to cut WG's lead in half, in a matter of minutes. Unfortunately, WG's settled down and from there were kept trying to whittle down the lead, getting as close as 4 or 5 points on several occasion. However, WG made critical shots at critical times and kept their small lead of 4 or 6 points. Additionally, a mistake by the scorer's table in counting a 2 points score that should not have counted because the referee had already whistled that player for travelling and indicated clearly that the score should not count, greatly hurt our efforts. After 3 quarters we found ourselves still down by 8 points (though it should only have been 6 points).

In the 4th quarter, we kept cutting the lead down but WG again kept their poise and kept hitting critical baskets at critical times, keeping us at bay. With about 4 minutes left, WG's veteran, Kek Lee, starting delaying and winding down the shot clock on each possession. 4 minute mark (especially with only a small lead of 6 points) was way to early to go into a delay strategy. Unfortunately, we were unable at this very critical stage to control the defensive board and WG managed to get critical offensive rebounds,, allowing them to run off many precious extra seconds on many of the possessions.

In the end, we simply ran out of time whilst Kek Lee made critical shot after shot, scoring 4 critical baskets in the waning moments of the game. Final score : 53-60. Definitely not our "usual" performance.

The team stats actually is quite similar, both teams shooting around 30+ % with both teams taking similar 75 shots each. However, whilst WG shot 70% FT's, we only shot a miserable 36%! In the end, we lost the game due to our poor free throw shooting, offensive rebounds given up (leading to 12 second chance points for WG) and high turnovers.

Individually, Ching got his usual double double (26 pts, 14 rebs) and although he shot a good 50%, he missed several critical, very make-able shots too. Other than that, most of us did not play to our usual performance. Phang only gets 11 points (usually a closer to 20 point scorer) and had a team high 6 turnovers. Sem and I, our primary 3 point shooters, are 0-8 and -0-4 from 3 point line, with 4 turnovers each. Jensen (another usually 15-20 points scorer) also only gets 11 points with 4 turnovers as well. Somehow, none of us could get to our usual performance. Felt like we "lost" the game rather than WG won / beat us.
